MP’s of all political colours come in for a lot of flack and most of the time, it’s justified when it’s in respect of their professional record. However, like anyone devoting their time to the service of others, appropriate recognition is deserved when they do good.
I hosted a totally unexpected visit by Liz Truss, the MP for South West Norfolk where my businesses are based. Following my post on here about the challenges I’m experiencing in recruiting, I decided to take the plunge and boldly ask for some political support to tackle an issue affecting so many businesses across all industries in this country.
To my utter amazement, within 5 days I’ve got the former Prime Minister sitting in my boardroom offering to support us in our recruitment challenges by looking at tackling the issue of people who could be working but aren’t.
I gave Liz a tour of my two businesses showing an example of our conveyor belt product being manufactured for export to India as well as examples of recently manufactured branded merchandise! And of course, I couldn’t let such an opportunity pass without talking to Liz about AF and my work with Atrial Fibrillation Association in East Anglia! I can now say I’ve carried out a pulse check on the former Prime Minister!
Its fair to say I absolutely did not expect a response to this extent and as efficiently as this! Despite all of the events of recent months, credit should be given where it’s due and to have a response and then a visit by a constituency MP to an issue within 5 days is impressive but also shows what can be achieved with focus and objective vision on both sides! Here’s hoping it might lead to positive change on a variety of fronts
And an enormous thank you once again to my Speedbird team who put up with my crazy knee-jerk and quirky ideas! As wonky as I can be, I don’t think it’s a bad place to work and have some fun along the way
